the hope of being seen from the sky they couldn’t reach.

Excavated on a sandy hillside overlooking Pisco Bay in central
eastern Peru. It is perfectly aligned north to south and can be seen up
to 19 km out to sea. Cut two feet into soil, it is believed to be the
work of the pre-Incan Paracas people. Also called the Candelabra of the
Andes, there is
much debate regarding what sort of candle it could
represent.

In the Colorado Desert of California are a number of huge geoglyphs
called the Intaglios, measuring more then 50 meters in length, which
depict scenes of everyday life as well as more enigmatic ones, like the
hunter walking upon the water. Made up of several dozen figures and a
labyrinth, they are the only collective group of human-like geoglyph
known in the world. Thought to have been made by Majave and Quechan
Indians between 450 to 10,000 years ago, they are still shrouded in
mystery.
8 The Sajama Lines, Bolivia

Located in the Sajama region of west Bolivia. Lines are a network of
tens of thousands of nearly perfectly straight paths etched into the
ground. Collectively covering an area of 22,525 km2, the web-like
pattern is fifteen times larger than the area covered by the Nazca
Lines, and they are considered the largest geoglyphs in the whole world,
having been cut in the ground continuously for 3,000 years. Among
several explanations, the lines and other figures are believed to have
been made by indigenous people for sacred pilgrimages.

The eastern part of Jordan is a desolated place covered by a vast
lava desert, the Harrat. But hidden in the middle of this hostile and
inaccessible place covered with basalt stones are a large number of
strange and varied figures that were only discovered in 2013.

Located in the hills near Ufington, a little village in Oxfordshire,
England is a highly stylized prehistoric hill figure, 110 meters long,
formed from deep trenches filled with crushed white chalk. presumably
created during the Iron Age, it is the oldest of the chalk figures in
Britain and one of the most famous geoglyphs in the world. generally
thought to represent a stylized horse the identity of this animal cannot
be confirmed.

The Atacama Desert is a plateau covering a 1,000 km strip of land on
the Pacific coast. Over the past thirty years, archaeologist have
discovered a rich heritage hiding in this vast and desolated place,
including more than 5,000 prehistoric works of art placed on or worked
into the landscape. Among them, el Giante de Atocama, the largest
prehistoric human figure in the world, with a height of 119 meters. The
figure is thought have served as an early astronomical calendar, used to
determine where the mood would set.

Thanks to the use of satellites, we today have access to some of the
most historically inaccessible places, like the Ural Mountains. On a
Google Earth image from 2007, curious traces were found on ground near
the Lake Zjuratkul. Excavations of the area in 2012 uncovered a deeply
buried structure make a large stones and a center filled with little
rocks. The unknown creators drug away the soil layer down to virgin clay
and put stones in the trench. When the dig ended, a strange figure
appeared from the sky, stretching for 275 meters. It had four legs, two
horns, and an abnormally long muzzle, making it look a unusual type of
elk. Thought to date from the Neolithic Era, it is one of the oldest
examples of land art in the world.

Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah is home to many
colorful canyons, where the Fremont and Anasazi people left lots of
amazing artwork nearly a thousand years ago. The people that lived here
thought the ages are known to have been very creative painters and
authors of strange pictograms. When abstract figures of unknown meaning
were discovered nearby, the Fremont and Anasazi were logically thought
to be the creators, but there is yet no clear evidence of who actually
made these when…. and why.

Discovered accidentally during an airplane flight in 1927, the Nazca
lines instantly become a hot topic around the world. The enormous
figures that were found have puzzled archeologists for a long time, and
are now thought to have been a complex irrigation system associated with
a cult of Nature. But one figure sands on a hillside apart from the
others, The Nazca Astronaut, created approximately 1,500 years ago. Also
called The Owl-Man, what this entity represents and its purpose are
still widely discussed mysteries.
1 Amazonian Rainforest Geoglyphs, Brazil

The Amazonian Rainforest has always been suspected to be a place
hiding many mysteries and as deforestation continues to ruin wild,
archaeologists are finally able to access to some of them. More than 300
ancient geoglyphs have been discovered in the state of Arce since the
1970s. They are thought to be the work on a lost pre-columbian
civilization, but their purpose remains unknown.
The mysterious geometric forms carved in the land are of major
historical significance, even thought many other wonders have been lost
in the process of their discovery.
